Relevance of SCAHF in Nigeria

Nigeria has the highest rate of Sickle cell disease in the world with over 150,000 children born with SCD each year and about 40 million people in total according to a report by Dr Bosede Afolabi. Nigeria losses about 2500 people daily to Sickle Cell disease which shows that there is a gap in knowledge that needs to be filled in order to manage the disease better. Daily about 5 million people in Nigeria need a blood transfusion to stay alive. Hence, the need for blood donation.
